5 good reasons to travel alone

New Year new travel plans? Whether you want to go somewhere close as the UK or as far out as Australia here are 5 reasons why everyone should go it alone at least once in their lives…

1. You can see what you want when you want

Fancy going on a dinner cruise through Sydney or perhaps taking a cable car to the highest mountain you can see? Have a craving for a hike or a yoga workout? When you go away by yourself your itinerary is 100% created by you. There is no need for group discussions in the decision making process you and you alone can make things happen now!

2. You will learn things about yourself that you never knew before

Self discovery is a huge part of going it alone. As you have plenty of time to get in touch with your inner self you can reflect on past and future choices you are looking to make when you return to the real world. Perhaps you have learned you need to work on being more patient or decisive or maybe you realised you aren’t setting enough goals. Self realisation can be the kick in the butt you need to change your life.

3. You will force yourself to make friends or even start conversations

Plenty of people travel alone and would be happy for you to start conversations with them. When I travelled to Nepal I spoke to everyone and anyone I came across. I had some really great conversations with people on the plane, in the airport lounge, in restaurants and bars in Kathmandu with people I wouldn’t have noticed had I been with a friend. If you find this daunting you can always prop yourself up in a random bar and have the chats with a barman. They are well used to it! Or you can always join a travel group. 4. Your trip can be as expensive or as cheap as you like

Cost is a huge argument inducer when overseas. Perhaps you like the finer or simpler things in life and your travel companion does not. There will be disagreements. Eitherway when alone if you fancy combining an overnight hostel stay with a five star hotel you can choose to do whatever you can afford!

5. Waiting around on people gets you nowhere!

The older you get, the more responsibilities you have and the less chance there is of you actually visiting your dream destination. Travelling is expensive and getting enough holidays from work can be a pain in the ass. Also people tend to say they’ll do something and then drop out. Why not save yourself all that stress, grab the bull by the horns and just go already?
